I want to buy a sewing machine for my granddaughter, 7 yr old, and she wants to sew for her 18 inch doll. I want a machine that will handle sewing small things and I can't seem to find one. ? ? ?

In answer to looking for small sewing machine for doll clothes.

I taught my granddaughter to sew on a reg. size sewing machine when she was 6 years old. She made pot holders, as the first thing they need to learn is to sew a straight line. I would teach her how to tread the machine and then making pot holders or placemats to get used to the machine. My sewing machine had different speeds and I had her using the slow speed until he could handle it. She is now 9 years old and I have an embrodery machine. She knows how to download designs off my PC and put them into the machine and do all the embrodery. Kids learn fast if their interested in what there doing. Glad your teaching her to sew. I think all girls need to know how to sew. Have fun....Lynn

P.S. Just buy your basic sewing machine, because she'll move on to making other things. My granddaughter made her mom a bathrobe for xmas last year. You need to stick to a reg. size sewing machine.

Home made dolls beat barbies by a long shot

I think Barbie doll clothes are way too expensive. My Mom has made clothes for my daughter's dolls and she loves them. My Mom put tags in each of the clothes too with her doll's name on them and it just really gives it a personal touch.

Is this actually true? It is just kinda weird giving a sewing machine as a gift to children as early six or seven years of age. Somewhat it doesn't feel right? Well, how? I don't know?! Maybe upon knowing that THEY MIGHT SEW THEIR HANDS is a good reason. Children will always be children, well if they are gifted I think you can try this but you still need them to put under your supervision and ever watchful eyes. Why not let the sewing hobby be for the adults, maybe you can later give them this when they are around nine and beyond where they have a better way of thinking and avoiding some "pointy" accidents.

Why not encourage your kids to learn more than how to chew on cheap-s**t plastic toys made in China?

Why not give your kid a sewing machine when they are young? You could always just supervise them and teach them a good trait to have in life.
