I have no clue how to even sew by hand, but I am looking into buying a sewing machine to make some baby blankets for my newborn and curtains. What is a good sewing machine that would be easy on a beginner like myself.

I had a cheapie sewing machine from Walmart for years and it never did really work out right.

Finally, I invested in a mid-priced Viking sewing machine from Jo-Anns and it's made all the difference.

This sewing machine is simple enough for the beginner while having some of the more advanced functions for the serious sewer.

What model Viking is that? I want a decent model for many sewiing clothes and upholstery and other projects. I can hand dew but it takes so long a time when i could be doing other things. I would appreciate advice.

Is it hard to find needles?

Thanks for the suggestion. How much should I expect to pay for a simple, but good sewing machine? I don't want it to break down on me, but I don't want it to kill my checkbook either. I know some can get really fancy and expensive. My Nanna has one that embroiders.

I bought a wal mart special when i had a sewing project. I paid about 50.00 if i remmeber right. I made sure it had no special features that might confuse me lol.

I think you should also invest on sewing machine books or browse the internet for sewing tips for the home maker because no matter how sturdy or expensive or good quality the sewing machine you availed over the net or at the market, it will still get broken if you are not knowledgeable in properly handling the tool and its maintenance. This is just a suggestion. Now, continue with you discussion. Just playing the angel here (or not! hahahaha)
