Hi all, I am not usually a very craft-y person but I am trying to put something together at the moment.
I have these decorative map prints (on paper) that I would like to colour and cover the backing board of my work desk with.
The maps are brownish/black detail on a light, creamy coloured background. I was hoping to have it be green, so I thought I would paint over it with green watercolour paint so that the detail would still show through the paint.
However, last time I tried something very similar to this, I failed miserably. I glued the paper onto the surface I wanted it on with spray adhesive, then painted it. I used a good amount of glue and the paper seemed firmly stuck on, but the watercolour paint caused the paper to curl up and detach messily from the surface in several areas, ruining the project.
I want to try this again, but how can I make it work this time? Is there a different kind of paint that would still allow the map detail to show through but not curl the paper? Should I paint first and try to uncurl the paper when it is dry? Is there a better type of glue that would keep the paper down?
I would be really appreciative of any advice you can offer,
Thanks for taking the time to read all this, sorry if these are really stupid questions!
