I am going to attempt my first mosiac project. My question is: What type or kind of exterior glue should I use to adhere my pieces??

I think you need to use some sort of cement glue. You can get that a the craft store or your local hardware store. What are you trying to adhere the tiles to?

It depends on what kind of material you are going to use. Each glue and other adhesive have their each every characteristics best for a material. for me I suggest that you use Elmer's white glue for paper based materials, wood glue or contact cement for other types, you also need to know how to apply the said glues so the bond will be a lot more stronger and you don't have to repeat the process all over again.

i am interested in doing a mosaic of broken dishes to a wood cabinet in my kitchen that is above my stove. the cabinet is stained wood. what type of adhesive should i use?
