I have done this project with my 4th graders, but you could do it with any age of students. We find materials that are recycled and we make art out of them. We use newspaper, paper, plastic, bottles (both glass and plastic), and anything else the students find around the campus or from home. We usually start with a cleanup around the school. And we use some of the materials we find for our project. Then I divide them up into teams to build art. They have a blast, it stresses a good point, and we clean up the campus in the process! Comment #1 endora (24.45.126.104) - What exactly is the project? You just mentioned picking up recycled things but what do you do with it? Or do you just let me gather the stuff up and decide what they can do with it? Comment #2 Courtney (1) from The South - Exactly, I let them use their imagination to make whatever they want and then we put them on display in the hallway glass showcase shelves. I really just guide them through it, but all of the creativity is left up to them. Comment #3 Goldie from on top of Ol' Smokey! - Here is a website on making paper! You could add differnt things like rose petals or feathers or sparkles. I think this is a great craft to help the kids learn about recycling. Comment #4 Berkley from The Cove - Anything you can make from recycled material is A OK in my book. I was watching Racheal Ray's tv show and they showed an entire store that made everything from recycled materials. You would never be able to tell from some of the items. You just have to get creative!
