How old do you think your child has to be to introduce them to the world of cross stiching. My daughter is eight and she has been bugging me to teach her. Do you think eight is too young.

If shes asking i would start teaching her. I think having the interst to start is the key. I know i never had an interest till alot later and i wish i did pick it up because now im to lazy to learn.

Comment #2 Jeanette from AZ -

I bought my daughter one of those kid friendly cross stitch projects (she is 8 too) and it used yarn. It really introduced her to the art of stitching. Now she wants a "grown up" version.

Handling a needly takes good motor skills. i would say her age is less a issue than her hand eye coordination. Is she farsighted? These are the qualities that will govern success and enjoyment.

8 is not too young! Go ahead and teach her. You will be surprised how good she will do on her own.

There's a whole forum devoted to cross-stitch here too. :-)

If she wants to do it, let her. As has been mentioned, there are so many kits especially for kids, that she should be fine. Let her pick out a pattern that makes her happy and then let her do it herself unless she asks for help. I was 19 when I did my first cross-stitch and it was so bad I threw it away and did it again. It doesn't matter what it looks like, just that she did it.
