Okay, so I have painted pumpkins for the past two or three years, but I can't ever get the paint right. It either chips or rubs off. Mystery to me, what kind of paint should I use and should I spray it with some kind of sealant afterwards?

I buy those little baby pumpkins for my kids and have them decorate them with those permanent sharpie pens. They love it and enjoy displaying them as well.

What type of sharpie do you use? I have little ones and would be interested in using markers over paint but i didnt want to create a mess that wouldnt wash off. do the washable markers work on a pumpkin or were you using the perminate ones?

I use the permanent sharpies. I got a whole set at staples I think - variety of colors. They work great on the pumpkins and yes, be careful, because it is very difficult to wash off if the kids get them on their clothes, etc. My kids are older - 6, 9, and 12. So I don't have much of a problem anymore with them getting it on them or their clothes.

Sharpies is a very cute idea. I have not found the best kind of paints either, but I do know not to use the washable kind, they definately don't work. Try just the small bottles of craft paint. They are like $1.00. Try doing one yourself first and then if it works do it with the kids.
