So usually with kids I do recommend just painting pumpkins, but I promised my nephews that this year we would carve pumpkins. I usually get them involved by just letting them remove the seeds and then we bake some in the oven, but are there carving kits for kids, or does anyone have a suggestion on how they can do the carving themselves? They are six and seven.

Six and seven seems so young to start carving. How about if they trace the design they want and you cut it out for them? They can then do the cleaning and the candle part. I still think painting is a better idea till the teens.

There are these safe carving knives that you can buy that will cut a pumpkin but not skin. My DD is 7 and she carved her first pumpkin with one of these. They are real cheap, like $1!!
