What are you favorite perfumes to use when making candles? How do you know how much to put in?

I prefer unscented candles.

I love the smell of Vanilla and use that oil when making candles. Depending on the size i always use double of the amount because i love a strong smelling candle. Nothing is worse then no scent from a candle lol.

If you have alergies the scents can be very bad.. sneezing, raw emotions, red skin. For some there is nothing worse than a scented candle (or anything else). Keep that in mind when you decorate for guests.

I didn't even think about allergies that people may have. I love to have all kinds of candles in my home, especially when I am entertaining. I suppose in the future I need to be more aware of other people's allergies to scents. Thanks for the heads up.

My personal favorites are Vanilla and Cinnamon. We have a great homemade candle store where I live and their scents can't be beat. I have never found a better candle. I have not ever found a good candle brand in the stores.

Have you tried Diptyqe?

If you want to know a shocker then i once put some lavender scented lotion in a candle with some red and blue dye. The wax was kind of gray to begin with so it smelled like lavender and has the right color.

I prefer vanilla myself though cinammon is always good. I have also made coffee scented candles with actual coffee beans sprinkled in the candle.

I love the scent of clean cotton or linen. It smells so fresh. It's really the only two scents that do not bother my husband. He doesn't like it smelling too flowery. LOL.

This time of year i love those pine scented ones. I like to pretend i have a pine tree instead of my fake christmas tree. :P

Oh Jeanette I am totally with you on the Fresh Linen smells. I also like smells like Sugar Cookie, or Cinnamon Roll. It gets me in the mood to do some baking.

I also love the smell of sugar cookies. The candles my mom always bought smelled so good!

Seashell Candle

Tools:

oven mitt

spoon

scissors

pan

Supply Quantity Size

shell 1

candle gel wax

blue candle dye

wick 1 piece 2" long

metal wick holder 1

Step By Step Instructions

1. Clean and dry your shell.

2. Cut a piece of wick 2" long. Insert the end through the wick holder with a ½" extending past the bottom of the wick holder. Set aside.

3. Now it is time to melt the wax. Scoop a large chunk of the gel wax into the pan you chose to use. Following the directions on the container carefully, melt the wax for your candle.

4. When the wax has melted, add the dye. You may need to gently rock the pan to stir the dye into the wax or use an old spoon. Be careful you don't splash the wax on yourself because the wax is hot. Use an oven mitt to protect yourself now and when pouring the wax into the seashell.

5. When the dye has blended thoroughly into the melted wax it is ready to pour. First, pour only a bit of wax into the bottom of the shell. Press the wick holder with the wick in it into the wax. Let sit 5 minutes to harden and hold the wick in place before adding the rest of the wick. Holding the other end of the wick up, pour the wax carefully and slowly into the shell. You don't want to get wax on the end of the wick where you will be lighting it. Let the wax harden completely before lighting the candle. A simple touch test will let you know if the gel wax is firm. Trim the wax to ¼" above the surface of the wax before lighting the candle.
